Critical Reading & Writing
Six one-hour sessions to hone your reading & analytical skills.
Service Description
Master the reading and writing skills necessary for college or any standardized test by focusing on the fundamental habits of mind they require in this challenging sequence of skill-based practices. Over the course of six hour-long sessions, you will learn how to approach a complex argument so that you understand not only what it is saying, but its assumptions, gaps, and implications, as well. This is a skill that's called on time and again at the college level. Using the same approach taught to Harvard students, we'll show you how to analyze an argument so that you can ask the right questions and answer them meaningfully. Some Skills You'll Learn: 💡 Identify reasoning gaps, assumptions, implications, inconsistencies, ambiguities, alternative explanations, and unfulfilled promises in an argument. 💡 Turn a gut feeling into an analytical insight or 'thesis.' 💡 Communicate your insight clearly and effectively to your target audience. 💡 Choose & analyze the most effective evidence to support your claims. 💡 Consider and address the limitations of your own argument. 💡 Craft purposeful paragraphs that forward your argument. 💡 Articulate the stakes of your insight persuasively. Cost: $1000 Includes 6 one-hour sessions, personalized feedback on four written assignments, and all materials. Intended for high-school students, college students, and adult learners. 🗓 Book your initial consultation & we will work with you to make a plan that works with your schedule. 👥 Group discounts available; inquire for details.
